DEUTERONOMY 22 15 Then shall the father of the damsel, and her mother, take and bring forth the tokens of the damsel's virginity unto the elders of the city in the GATE: 24 Then ye shall bring them both out unto the GATE of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you. DEUTERONOMY 25 7 And if the man like not to take his brother's wife, then let his brother's wife go up to the GATE unto the elders, and say, My husband's brother refuseth to raise up unto his brother a name in Israel, he will not perform the duty of my husband's brother. DEUTERONOMY 28 7 The LORD shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and FLEE before thee seven ways. 25 The LORD shall cause thee to be smitten before thine enemies: thou shalt go out one way against them, and FLEE seven ways before them: and shalt be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth. JOSHUA 2 5 And it came to pass about the time of shutting of the GATE, when it was dark, that the men went out: whither the men went I wot not: pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them. 7 And the men pursued after them the way to Jordan unto the fords: and as soon as they which pursued after them were gone out, they shut the GATE. JOSHUA 7 5 And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men: for they chased them from before the GATE even unto Shebarim, and smote them in the going down: wherefore the hearts of the people melted, and became as water. JOSHUA 8 5 And I, and all the people that are with me, will approach unto the city: and it shall come to pass, when they come out against us, as at the first, that we will FLEE before them, 6 (For they will come out after us) till we have drawn them from the city; for they will say, They FLEE before us, as at the first: therefore we will FLEE before them. 20 And when the men of Ai looked behind them, they saw, and, behold, the smoke of the city ascended up to heaven, and they had no power to FLEE this way or that way: and the people that fled to the wilderness turned back upon the pursuers. 29 And the king of Ai he hanged on a tree until eventide: and as soon as the sun was down, Joshua commanded that they should take his carcase down from the tree, and cast it at the entering of the GATE of the city, and raise thereon a great heap of stones, that remaineth unto this day. JOSHUA 11 22 There was none of the Anakims left in the land of the children of Israel: only in Gaza, in GATH, and in Ashdod, there remained. JOSHUA 20 3 That the slayer that killeth any person unawares and unwittingly may FLEE thither: and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood. 4 And when he that doth FLEE unto one of those cities shall stand at the entering of the GATE of the city, and shall declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city, they shall take him into the city unto them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them. 9 These were the cities appointed for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them, that whosoever killeth any person at unawares might FLEE thither, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation. JUDGES 6 37 Behold, I will put a FLEECE of wool in the floor; and if the dew be on the FLEECE only, and it be dry upon all the earth beside, then shall I know that thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said. 38 And it was so: for he rose up early on the morrow, and thrust the FLEECE together, and wringed the dew out of the FLEECE, a bowl full of water. 39 And Gideon said unto God, Let not thine anger be hot against me, and I will speak but this once: let me prove, I pray thee, but this once with the FLEECE; let it now be dry only upon the FLEECE, and upon all the ground let there be dew. 40 And God did so that night: for it was dry upon the FLEECE only, and there was dew on all the ground. JUDGES 9 35 And Gaal the son of Ebed went out, and stood in the entering of the GATE of the city: and Abimelech rose up, and the people that were with him, from lying in wait. 40 And Abimelech chased him, and he fled before him, and many were overthrown and wounded, even unto the entering of the GATE. 44 And Abimelech, and the company that was with him, rushed forward, and stood in the entering of the GATE of the city: and the two other companies ran upon all the people that were in the fields, and slew them. JUDGES 16 2 And it was told the Gazites, saying, Samson is come hither. And they compassed him in, and laid wait for him all night in the GATE of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, In the morning, when it is day, we shall kill him. 3 And Samson lay till midnight, and arose at midnight, and took the doors of the GATE of the city, and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of an hill that is before Hebron. JUDGES 18 16 And the six hundred men appointed with their weapons of war, which were of the children of Dan, stood by the entering of the GATE. 17 And the five men that went to spy out the land went up, and came in thither, and took the graven image, and the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image: and the priest stood in the entering of the GATE with the six hundred men that were appointed with weapons of war. JUDGES 20 32 And the children of Benjamin said, They are smitten down before us, as at the first. But the children of Israel said, Let us FLEE, and draw them from the city unto the highways. RUTH 4 1 Then went Boaz up to the GATE, and sat him down there: and, behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz spake came by; unto whom he said, Ho, such a one! turn aside, sit down here. And he turned aside, and sat down. 10 Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, have I purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead be not cut off from among his brethren, and from the GATE of his place: ye are witnesses this day. 11 And all the people that were in the GATE, and the elders, said, We are witnesses. The LORD make the woman that is come into thine house like Rachel and like Leah, which two did build the house of Israel: and do thou worthily in Ephratah, and be famous in Bethlehem: 1 SAMUEL 4 18 And it came to pass, when he made mention of the ark of God, that he fell from off the seat backward by the side of the GATE, and his neck brake, and he died: for he was an old man, and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years. 1 SAMUEL 5 8 They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto GATH. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel about thither. 1 SAMUEL 6 17 And these are the golden emerods which the Philistines returned for a trespass offering unto the LORD; for Ashdod one, for Gaza one, for Askelon one, for GATH one, for Ekron one; 1 SAMUEL 7 14 And the cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even unto GATH; and the coasts thereof did Israel deliver out of the hands of the Philistines. And there was peace between Israel and the Amorites. 1 SAMUEL 9 18 Then Saul drew near to Samuel in the GATE, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, where the seer's house is. 1 SAMUEL 17 4 And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of GATH, whose height was six cubits and a span. 23 And as he talked with them, behold, there came up the champion, the Philistine of GATH, Goliath by name, out of the armies of the Philistines, and spake according to the same words: and David heard them. 52 And the men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until thou come to the valley, and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even unto GATH, and unto Ekron. 1 SAMUEL 21 10 And David arose and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to Achish the king of GATH. 12 And David laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of GATH. 13 And he changed his behaviour before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the GATE, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard. 1 SAMUEL 27 2 And David arose, and he passed over with the six hundred men that were with him unto Achish, the son of Maoch, king of GATH. 3 And David dwelt with Achish at GATH, he and his men, every man with his household, even David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal's wife. 4 And it was told Saul that David was fled to GATH: and he sought no more again for him. 11 And David saved neither man nor woman alive, to bring tidings to GATH, saying, Lest they should tell on us, saying, So did David, and so will be his manner all the while he dwelleth in the country of the Philistines. 2 SAMUEL 1 20 Tell it not in GATH, publish it not in the streets of Askelon; lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph. 2 SAMUEL 3 27 And when Abner was returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside in the GATE to speak with him quietly, and smote him there under the fifth rib, that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother. 2 SAMUEL 4 4 And Jonathan, Saul's son, had a son that was lame of his feet. He was five years old when the tidings came of Saul and Jonathan out of Jezreel, and his nurse took him up, and fled: and it came to pass, as she made haste to FLEE, that he fell, and became lame. And his name was Mephibosheth. 2 SAMUEL 10 8 And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entering in of the GATE: and the Syrians of Zoba, and of Rehob, and Ishtob, and Maacah, were by themselves in the field. --MORE-- |
