1 SAMUEL 16
1 And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn FOR Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: FOR I have provided me a king among his sons.
7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: FOR the LORD seeth not as man seeth; FOR man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.
11 And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: FOR we will not sit down till he come hither.

28 And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; FOR thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.
31 And when the words were heard which David spake, they rehearsed them before Saul: and he sent FOR him.
33 And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: FOR thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.
39 And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; FOR he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; FOR I have not proved them. And David put them off him.

29 And he said, Let me go, I pray thee; FOR our family hath a sacrifice in the city; and my brother, he hath commanded me to be there: and now, if I have found favour in thine eyes, let me get away, I pray thee, and see my brethren. Therefore he cometh not unto the king's table.
31 FOR as long as the son of Jesse liveth upon the ground, thou shalt not be established, nor thy kingdom. Wherefore now send and fetch him unto me, FOR he shall surely die.
34 So Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and did eat no meat the second day of the month: FOR he was grieved FOR David, because his father had done him shame.
42 And Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, forasmuch as we have sworn both of us in the name of the LORD, saying, The LORD be between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed FOR ever. And he arose and departed: and Jonathan went into the city.

6 So the priest gave him hallowed bread: FOR there was no bread there but the shewbread, that was taken from before the LORD, to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away.

26 And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain: and David made haste to get away FOR fear of Saul; FOR Saul and his men compassed David and his men round about to take them.
27 But there came a messenger unto Saul, saying, Haste thee, and come; FOR the Philistines have invaded the land.
