1 SAMUEL 26 9 And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not: FOR who can stretch forth his hand against the LORD's anointed, and be guiltless? 12 So David took the spear and the cruse of water from Saul's bolster; and they gat them away, and no man saw it, nor knew it, neither awaked: FOR they were all asleep; because a deep sleep from the LORD was fallen upon them. 15 And David said to Abner, Art not thou a valiant man? and who is like to thee in Israel? wherefore then hast thou not kept thy lord the king? FOR there came one of the people in to destroy the king thy lord. 18 And he said, Wherefore doth my lord thus pursue after his servant? FOR what have I done? or what evil is in mine hand? 19 Now therefore, I pray thee, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If the LORD have stirred thee up against me, let him accept an offering: but if they be the children of men, cursed be they before the LORD; FOR they have driven me out this day from abiding in the inheritance of the LORD, saying, Go, serve other gods. 20 Now therefore, let not my blood fall to the earth before the face of the LORD: FOR the king of Israel is come out to seek a flea, as when one doth hunt a partridge in the mountains. 21 Then said Saul, I have sinned: return, my son David: FOR I will no more do thee harm, because my soul was precious in thine eyes this day: behold, I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly. 23 The LORD render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness; FOR the LORD delivered thee into my hand to day, but I would not stretch forth mine hand against the LORD's anointed. 1 SAMUEL 27 1 And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better FOR me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul shall despair of me, to seek me any more in any coast of Israel: so shall I escape out of his hand. 4 And it was told Saul that David was fled to Gath: and he sought no more again FOR him. 5 And David said unto Achish, If I have now found grace in thine eyes, let them give me a place in some town in the country, that I may dwell there: FOR why should thy servant dwell in the royal city with thee? 8 And David and his men went up, and invaded the Geshurites, and the Gezrites, and the Amalekites: FOR those nations were of old the inhabitants of the land, as thou goest to Shur, even unto the land of Egypt. 12 And Achish believed David, saying, He hath made his people Israel utterly to abhor him; therefore he shall be my servant FOR ever. 1 SAMUEL 28 1 And it came to pass in those days, that the Philistines gathered their armies together FOR warfare, to fight with Israel. And Achish said unto David, Know thou assuredly, that thou shalt go out with me to battle, thou and thy men. 2 And David said to Achish, Surely thou shalt know what thy servant can do. And Achish said to David, Therefore will I make thee keeper of mine head FOR ever. 9 And the woman said unto him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul hath done, how he hath cut off those that have familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land: wherefore then layest thou a snare FOR my life, to cause me to die? 10 And Saul sware to her by the LORD, saying, As the LORD liveth, there shall no punishment happen to thee FOR this thing. 12 And when the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice: and the woman spake to Saul, saying, Why hast thou deceived me? FOR thou art Saul. 13 And the king said unto her, Be not afraid: FOR what sawest thou? And the woman said unto Saul, I saw gods ascending out of the earth. 15 And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am sore distressed; FOR the Philistines make war against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have called thee, that thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do. 17 And the LORD hath done to him, as he spake by me: FOR the LORD hath rent the kingdom out of thine hand, and given it to thy neighbour, even to David: 20 Then Saul fell straightway all along on the earth, and was sore afraid, because of the words of Samuel: and there was no strength in him; FOR he had eaten no bread all the day, nor all the night. 1 SAMUEL 29 4 And the princes of the Philistines were wroth with him; and the princes of the Philistines said unto him, Make this fellow return, that he may go again to his place which thou hast appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he be an adversary to us: FOR wherewith should he reconcile himself unto his master? should it not be with the heads of these men? 6 Then Achish called David, and said unto him, Surely, as the LORD liveth, thou hast been upright, and thy going out and thy coming in with me in the host is good in my sight: FOR I have not found evil in thee since the day of thy coming unto me unto this day: nevertheless the lords favour thee not. 1 SAMUEL 30 6 And David was greatly distressed; FOR the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man FOR his sons and FOR his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God. 8 And David enquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: FOR thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all. 10 But David pursued, he and four hundred men: FOR two hundred abode behind, which were so faint that they could not go over the brook Besor. 12 And they gave him a piece of a cake of figs, and two clusters of raisins: and when he had eaten, his spirit came again to him: FOR he had eaten no bread, nor drunk any water, three days and three nights. 24 FOR who will hearken unto you in this matter? but as his part is that goeth down to the battle, so shall his part be that tarrieth by the stuff: they shall part alike. 25 And it was so from that day forward, that he made it a statute and an ordinance FOR Israel unto this day. 26 And when David came to Ziklag, he sent of the spoil unto the elders of Judah, even to his friends, saying, Behold a present FOR you of the spoil of the enemies of the LORD; 1 SAMUEL 31 4 Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; FOR he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it. 2 SAMUEL 1 9 He said unto me again, Stand, I pray thee, upon me, and slay me: FOR anguish is come upon me, because my life is yet whole in me. 12 And they mourned, and wept, and fasted until even, FOR Saul, and FOR Jonathan his son, and FOR the people of the LORD, and FOR the house of Israel; because they were fallen by the sword. 16 And David said unto him, Thy blood be upon thy head; FOR thy mouth hath testified against thee, saying, I have slain the LORD's anointed. 21 Ye mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew, neither let there be rain, upon you, nor fields of offerings: FOR there the shield of the mighty is vilely cast away, the shield of Saul, as though he had not been anointed with oil. 26 I am distressed FOR thee, my brother Jonathan: very pleasant hast thou been unto me: thy love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women. 2 SAMUEL 2 7 Therefore now let your hands be strengthened, and be ye valiant: FOR your master Saul is dead, and also the house of Judah have anointed me king over them. 26 Then Abner called to Joab, and said, Shall the sword devour FOR ever? knowest thou not that it will be bitterness in the latter end? how long shall it be then, ere thou bid the people return from following their brethren? 2 SAMUEL 3 6 And it came to pass, while there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, that Abner made himself strong FOR the house of Saul. 8 Then was Abner very wroth FOR the words of Ishbosheth, and said, Am I a dog's head, which against Judah do shew kindness this day unto the house of Saul thy father, to his brethren, and to his friends, and have not delivered thee into the hand of David, that thou chargest me to day with a fault concerning this woman? 14 And David sent messengers to Ishbosheth Saul's son, saying, Deliver me my wife Michal, which I espoused to me FOR an hundred foreskins of the Philistines. 17 And Abner had communication with the elders of Israel, saying, Ye sought FOR David in times past to be king over you: 18 Now then do it: FOR the LORD hath spoken of David, saying, By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies. 22 And, behold, the servants of David and Joab came from pursuing a troop, and brought in a great spoil with them: but Abner was not with David in Hebron; FOR he had sent him away, and he was gone in peace. 27 And when Abner was returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside in the gate to speak with him quietly, and smote him there under the fifth rib, that he died, FOR the blood of Asahel his brother. 28 And afterward when David heard it, he said, I and my kingdom are guiltless before the LORD FOR ever from the blood of Abner the son of Ner: 37 FOR all the people and all Israel understood that day that it was not of the king to slay Abner the son of Ner. 39 And I am this day weak, though anointed king; and these men the sons of Zeruiah be too hard FOR me: the LORD shall reward the doer of evil according to his wickedness. 2 SAMUEL 4 2 And Saul's son had two men that were captains of bands: the name of the one was Baanah, and the name of the other Rechab, the sons of Rimmon a Beerothite, of the children of Benjamin: (FOR Beeroth also was reckoned to Benjamin. 4 And Jonathan, Saul's son, had a son that was lame of his feet. He was five years old when the tidings came of Saul and Jonathan out of Jezreel, and his nurse took him up, and fled: and it came to pass, as she made haste to FLEE, that he fell, and became lame. And his name was Mephibosheth. 7 FOR when they came into the house, he lay on his bed in his bedchamber, and they smote him, and slew him, and beheaded him, and took his head, and gat them away through the plain all night. 10 When one told me, saying, Behold, Saul is dead, thinking to have brought good tidings, I took hold of him, and slew him in Ziklag, who thought that I would have given him a reward FOR his tidings: --MORE-- |
