1 SAMUEL 28 1 And it came to pass in those days, that the Philistines gathered their armies together FOR warfare, to fight with Israel. And Achish said unto David, Know thou assuredly, that thou shalt go out with me to battle, thou and thy men. 2 And David said to Achish, Surely thou shalt know what thy servant can do. And Achish said to David, Therefore will I make thee keeper of mine head FOR ever. 9 And the woman said unto him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul hath done, how he hath cut off those that have familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land: wherefore then layest thou a snare FOR my life, to cause me to die? 10 And Saul sware to her by the LORD, saying, As the LORD liveth, there shall no punishment happen to thee FOR this thing. 12 And when the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice: and the woman spake to Saul, saying, Why hast thou deceived me? FOR thou art Saul. 13 And the king said unto her, Be not afraid: FOR what sawest thou? And the woman said unto Saul, I saw gods ascending out of the earth. 15 And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am sore distressed; FOR the Philistines make war against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have called thee, that thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do. 17 And the LORD hath done to him, as he spake by me: FOR the LORD hath rent the kingdom out of thine hand, and given it to thy neighbour, even to David: 20 Then Saul fell straightway all along on the earth, and was sore afraid, because of the words of Samuel: and there was no strength in him; FOR he had eaten no bread all the day, nor all the night. 1 SAMUEL 29 4 And the princes of the Philistines were wroth with him; and the princes of the Philistines said unto him, Make this fellow return, that he may go again to his place which thou hast appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he be an adversary to us: FOR wherewith should he reconcile himself unto his master? should it not be with the heads of these men? 6 Then Achish called David, and said unto him, Surely, as the LORD liveth, thou hast been upright, and thy going out and thy coming in with me in the host is good in my sight: FOR I have not found evil in thee since the day of thy coming unto me unto this day: nevertheless the lords favour thee not. 1 SAMUEL 30 6 And David was greatly distressed; FOR the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man FOR his sons and FOR his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God. 8 And David enquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: FOR thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all. 10 But David pursued, he and four hundred men: FOR two hundred abode behind, which were so faint that they could not go over the brook Besor. 12 And they gave him a piece of a cake of figs, and two clusters of raisins: and when he had eaten, his spirit came again to him: FOR he had eaten no bread, nor drunk any water, three days and three nights. 24 FOR who will hearken unto you in this matter? but as his part is that goeth down to the battle, so shall his part be that tarrieth by the stuff: they shall part alike. 25 And it was so from that day forward, that he made it a statute and an ordinance FOR Israel unto this day. 26 And when David came to Ziklag, he sent of the spoil unto the elders of Judah, even to his friends, saying, Behold a present FOR you of the spoil of the enemies of the LORD; 1 SAMUEL 31 4 Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; FOR he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it. 2 SAMUEL 1 9 He said unto me again, Stand, I pray thee, upon me, and slay me: FOR anguish is come upon me, because my life is yet whole in me. 12 And they mourned, and wept, and fasted until even, FOR Saul, and FOR Jonathan his son, and FOR the people of the LORD, and FOR the house of Israel; because they were fallen by the sword. 16 And David said unto him, Thy blood be upon thy head; FOR thy mouth hath testified against thee, saying, I have slain the LORD's anointed. 21 Ye mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew, neither let there be rain, upon you, nor fields of offerings: FOR there the shield of the mighty is vilely cast away, the shield of Saul, as though he had not been anointed with oil. 26 I am distressed FOR thee, my brother Jonathan: very pleasant hast thou been unto me: thy love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women. 2 SAMUEL 2 7 Therefore now let your hands be strengthened, and be ye valiant: FOR your master Saul is dead, and also the house of Judah have anointed me king over them. 26 Then Abner called to Joab, and said, Shall the sword devour FOR ever? knowest thou not that it will be bitterness in the latter end? how long shall it be then, ere thou bid the people return from following their brethren? 2 SAMUEL 3 6 And it came to pass, while there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, that Abner made himself strong FOR the house of Saul. 8 Then was Abner very wroth FOR the words of Ishbosheth, and said, Am I a dog's head, which against Judah do shew kindness this day unto the house of Saul thy father, to his brethren, and to his friends, and have not delivered thee into the hand of David, that thou chargest me to day with a fault concerning this woman? 14 And David sent messengers to Ishbosheth Saul's son, saying, Deliver me my wife Michal, which I espoused to me FOR an hundred foreskins of the Philistines. 17 And Abner had communication with the elders of Israel, saying, Ye sought FOR David in times past to be king over you: 18 Now then do it: FOR the LORD hath spoken of David, saying, By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies. 22 And, behold, the servants of David and Joab came from pursuing a troop, and brought in a great spoil with them: but Abner was not with David in Hebron; FOR he had sent him away, and he was gone in peace. 27 And when Abner was returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside in the gate to speak with him quietly, and smote him there under the fifth rib, that he died, FOR the blood of Asahel his brother. 28 And afterward when David heard it, he said, I and my kingdom are guiltless before the LORD FOR ever from the blood of Abner the son of Ner: 37 FOR all the people and all Israel understood that day that it was not of the king to slay Abner the son of Ner. 39 And I am this day weak, though anointed king; and these men the sons of Zeruiah be too hard FOR me: the LORD shall reward the doer of evil according to his wickedness. 2 SAMUEL 4 2 And Saul's son had two men that were captains of bands: the name of the one was Baanah, and the name of the other Rechab, the sons of Rimmon a Beerothite, of the children of Benjamin: (FOR Beeroth also was reckoned to Benjamin. 7 FOR when they came into the house, he lay on his bed in his bedchamber, and they smote him, and slew him, and beheaded him, and took his head, and gat them away through the plain all night. 10 When one told me, saying, Behold, Saul is dead, thinking to have brought good tidings, I took hold of him, and slew him in Ziklag, who thought that I would have given him a reward FOR his tidings: 2 SAMUEL 5 12 And David perceived that the LORD had established him king over Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdom FOR his people Israel's sake. 19 And David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up to the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto David, Go up: FOR I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into thine hand. 24 And let it be, when thou hearest the sound of a going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt bestir thyself: FOR then shall the LORD go out before thee, to smite the host of the Philistines. 2 SAMUEL 6 6 And when they came to Nachon's threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; FOR the oxen shook it. 7 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there FOR his error; and there he died by the ark of God. 17 And they brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in his place, in the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched FOR it: and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD. 2 SAMUEL 7 3 And Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that is in thine heart; FOR the LORD is with thee. 5 Go and tell my servant David, Thus saith the LORD, Shalt thou build me an house FOR me to dwell in? 10 Moreover I will appoint a place FOR my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime, 13 He shall build an house FOR my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom FOR ever. 16 And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established FOR ever before thee: thy throne shall be established FOR ever. 19 And this was yet a small thing in thy sight, O Lord GOD; but thou hast spoken also of thy servant's house FOR a great while to come. And is this the manner of man, O Lord GOD? 20 And what can David say more unto thee? FOR thou, Lord GOD, knowest thy servant. 21 FOR thy word's sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all these great things, to make thy servant know them. 22 Wherefore thou art great, O LORD God: FOR there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears. 23 And what one nation in the earth is like thy people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem FOR a people to himself, and to make him a name, and to do FOR you great things and terrible, FOR thy land, before thy people, which thou redeemedst to thee from Egypt, from the nations and their gods? 24 FOR thou hast confirmed to thyself thy people Israel to be a people unto thee FOR ever: and thou, LORD, art become their God. 25 And now, O LORD God, the word that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant, and concerning his house, establish it FOR ever, and do as thou hast said. 26 And let thy name be magnified FOR ever, saying, The LORD of hosts is the God over Israel: and let the house of thy servant David be established before thee. 27 FOR thou, O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, hast revealed to thy servant, saying, I will build thee an house: therefore hath thy servant found in his heart to pray this prayer unto thee. 29 Therefore now let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue FOR ever before thee: FOR thou, O Lord GOD, hast spoken it: and with thy blessing let the house of thy servant be blessed FOR ever. --MORE-- |
