2 CHRONICLES 34 3 FOR in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father: and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the groves, and the carved images, and the molten images. 11 Even to the artificers and builders gave they it, to buy hewn stone, and timber FOR couplings, and to floor the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed. 21 Go, enquire of the LORD FOR me, and FOR them that are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found: FOR great is the wrath of the LORD that is poured out upon us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD, to do after all that is written in this book. 26 And as FOR the king of Judah, who sent you to enquire of the LORD, so shall ye say unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel concerning the words which thou hast heard; 2 CHRONICLES 35 7 And Josiah gave to the people, of the flock, lambs and kids, all FOR the passover offerings, FOR all that were present, to the number of thirty thousand, and three thousand bullocks: these were of the king's substance. 8 And his princes gave willingly unto the people, to the priests, and to the Levites: Hilkiah and Zechariah and Jehiel, rulers of the house of God, gave unto the priests FOR the passover offerings two thousand and six hundred small cattle and three hundred oxen. 9 Conaniah also, and Shemaiah and Nethaneel, his brethren, and Hashabiah and Jeiel and Jozabad, chief of the Levites, gave unto the Levites FOR passover offerings five thousand small cattle, and five hundred oxen. 14 And afterward they made ready FOR themselves, and FOR the priests: because the priests the sons of Aaron were busied in offering of burnt offerings and the fat until night; therefore the Levites prepared FOR themselves, and FOR the priests the sons of Aaron. 15 And the singers the sons of Asaph were in their place, according to the commandment of David, and Asaph, and Heman, and Jeduthun the king's seer; and the porters waited at every gate; they might not depart from their service; FOR their brethren the Levites prepared FOR them. 21 But he sent ambassadors to him, saying, What have I to do with thee, thou king of Judah? I come not against thee this day, but against the house wherewith I have war: FOR God commanded me to make haste: forbear thee from meddling with God, who is with me, that he destroy thee not. 23 And the archers shot at king Josiah; and the king said to his servants, Have me away; FOR I am sore wounded. 24 His servants therefore took him out of that chariot, and put him in the second chariot that he had; and they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died, and was buried in one of the sepulchres of his fathers. And all Judah and Jerusalem mourned FOR Josiah. 25 And Jeremiah lamented FOR Josiah: and all the singing men and the singing women spake of Josiah in their lamentations to this day, and made them an ordinance in Israel: and, behold, they are written in the lamentations. 2 CHRONICLES 36 17 Therefore he brought upon them the king of the Chaldees, who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion upon young man or maiden, old man, or him that stooped FOR age: he gave them all into his hand. 21 To fulfil the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her sabbaths: FOR as long as she lay desolate she kept sabbath, to fulfil threescore and ten years. EZRA 1 4 And whosoever remaineth in any place where he sojourneth, let the men of his place help him with silver, and with gold, and with goods, and with beasts, beside the freewill offering FOR the house of God that is in Jerusalem. EZRA 2 68 And some of the chief of the fathers, when they came to the house of the LORD which is at Jerusalem, offered freely FOR the house of God to set it up in his place: EZRA 3 3 And they set the altar upon his bases; FOR fear was upon them because of the people of those countries: and they offered burnt offerings thereon unto the LORD, even burnt offerings morning and evening. 11 And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto the LORD; because he is good, FOR his mercy endureth FOR ever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid. 12 But many of the priests and Levites and chief of the fathers, who were ancient men, that had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice; and many shouted aloud FOR joy: 13 So that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people: FOR the people shouted with a loud shout, and the noise was heard afar off. EZRA 4 2 Then they came to Zerubbabel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said unto them, Let us build with you: FOR we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esarhaddon king of Assur, which brought us up hither. 14 Now because we have maintenance from the king's palace, and it was not meet FOR us to see the king's dishonour, therefore have we sent and certified the king; 15 That search may be made in the book of the records of thy fathers: so shalt thou find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful unto kings and provinces, and that they have moved sedition within the same of old time: FOR which cause was this city destroyed. EZRA 6 8 Moreover I make a decree what ye shall do to the elders of these Jews FOR the building of this house of God: that of the king's goods, even of the tribute beyond the river, forthwith expenses be given unto these men, that they be not hindered. 9 And that which they have need of, both young bullocks, and rams, and lambs, FOR the burnt offerings of the God of heaven, wheat, salt, wine, and oil, according to the appointment of the priests which are at Jerusalem, let it be given them day by day without fail: 10 That they may offer sacrifices of sweet savours unto the God of heaven, and pray FOR the life of the king, and of his sons. 11 Also I have made a decree, that whosoever shall alter this word, let timber be pulled down from his house, and being set up, let him be hanged thereon; and let his house be made a dunghill FOR this. 17 And offered at the dedication of this house of God an hundred bullocks, two hundred rams, four hundred lambs; and FOR a sin offering FOR all Israel, twelve he goats, according to the number of the tribes of Israel. 18 And they set the priests in their divisions, and the Levites in their courses, FOR the service of God, which is at Jerusalem; as it is written in the book of Moses. 20 FOR the priests and the Levites were purified together, all of them were pure, and killed the passover FOR all the children of the captivity, and FOR their brethren the priests, and FOR themselves. 22 And kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with joy: FOR the LORD had made them joyful, and turned the heart of the king of Assyria unto them, to strengthen their hands in the work of the house of God, the God of Israel. EZRA 7 9 FOR upon the first day of the first month began he to go up from Babylon, and on the first day of the fifth month came he to Jerusalem, according to the good hand of his God upon him. 10 FOR Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments. 16 And all the silver and gold that thou canst find in all the province of Babylon, with the freewill offering of the people, and of the priests, offering willingly FOR the house of their God which is in Jerusalem: 19 The vessels also that are given thee FOR the service of the house of thy God, those deliver thou before the God of Jerusalem. 20 And whatsoever more shall be needful FOR the house of thy God, which thou shalt have occasion to bestow, bestow it out of the king's treasure house. 23 Whatsoever is commanded by the God of heaven, let it be diligently done FOR the house of the God of heaven: FOR why should there be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons? EZRA 8 16 Then sent I FOR Eliezer, FOR Ariel, FOR Shemaiah, and FOR Elnathan, and FOR Jarib, and FOR Elnathan, and FOR Nathan, and FOR Zechariah, and FOR Meshullam, chief men; also FOR Joiarib, and FOR Elnathan, men of understanding. 17 And I sent them with commandment unto Iddo the chief at the place Casiphia, and I told them what they should say unto Iddo, and to his brethren the Nethinims, at the place Casiphia, that they should bring unto us ministers FOR the house of our God. 20 Also of the Nethinims, whom David and the princes had appointed FOR the service of the Levites, two hundred and twenty Nethinims: all of them were expressed by name. 21 Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river of Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way FOR us, and FOR our little ones, and FOR all our substance. 22 FOR I was ashamed to require of the king a band of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy in the way: because we had spoken unto the king, saying, The hand of our God is upon all them FOR good that seek him; but his power and his wrath is against all them that forsake him. 23 So we fasted and besought our God FOR this: and he was intreated of us. 35 Also the children of those that had been carried away, which were come out of the captivity, offered burnt offerings unto the God of Israel, twelve bullocks FOR all Israel, ninety and six rams, seventy and seven lambs, twelve he goats FOR a sin offering: all this was a burnt offering unto the LORD. EZRA 9 2 FOR they have taken of their daughters FOR themselves, and FOR their sons: so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the people of those lands: yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this trespass. 6 And said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God: FOR our iniquities are increased over our head, and our trespass is grown up unto the heavens. 7 Since the days of our fathers have we been in a great trespass unto this day; and FOR our iniquities have we, our kings, and our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to a spoil, and to confusion of face, as it is this day. 8 And now FOR a little space grace hath been shewed from the LORD our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a nail in his holy place, that our God may lighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving in our bondage. 9 FOR we were bondmen; yet our God hath not forsaken us in our bondage, but hath extended mercy unto us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to set up the house of our God, and to repair the desolations thereof, and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem. 10 And now, O our God, what shall we say after this? FOR we have forsaken thy commandments, 12 Now therefore give not your daughters unto their sons, neither take their daughters unto your sons, nor seek their peace or their wealth FOR ever: that ye may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave it FOR an inheritance to your children FOR ever. 13 And after all that is come upon us FOR our evil deeds, and FOR our great trespass, seeing that thou our God hast punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and hast given us such deliverance as this; 15 O LORD God of Israel, thou art righteous: FOR we remain yet escaped, as it is this day: behold, we are before thee in our trespasses: FOR we cannot stand before thee because of this. --MORE-- |
