2 CHRONICLES 22 1 And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his stead: FOR the band of men that came with the Arabians to the camp had slain all the eldest. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned. 3 He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: FOR his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly. 4 Wherefore he did evil in the sight of the LORD like the house of Ahab: FOR they were his counsellors after the death of his father to his destruction. 7 And the destruction of Ahaziah was of God by coming to Joram: FOR when he was come, he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom the LORD had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab. 9 And he sought Ahaziah: and they caught him, (FOR he was hid in Samaria,) and brought him to Jehu: and when they had slain him, they buried him: Because, said they, he is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought the LORD with all his heart. So the house of Ahaziah had no power to keep still the kingdom. 11 But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king's sons that were slain, and put him and his nurse in a bedchamber. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of king Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest, (FOR she was the sister of Ahaziah,) hid him from Athaliah, so that she slew him not. 2 CHRONICLES 23 6 But let none come into the house of the LORD, save the priests, and they that minister of the Levites; they shall go in, FOR they are holy: but all the people shall keep the watch of the LORD. 8 So the Levites and all Judah did according to all things that Jehoiada the priest had commanded, and took every man his men that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that were to go out on the sabbath: FOR Jehoiada the priest dismissed not the courses. 14 Then Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains of hundreds that were set over the host, and said unto them, Have her forth of the ranges: and whoso followeth her, let him be slain with the sword. FOR the priest said, Slay her not in the house of the LORD. 2 CHRONICLES 24 3 And Jehoiada took FOR him two wives; and he begat sons and daughters. 6 And the king called FOR Jehoiada the chief, and said unto him, Why hast thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the collection, according to the commandment of Moses the servant of the LORD, and of the congregation of Israel, FOR the tabernacle of witness? 7 FOR the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up the house of God; and also all the dedicated things of the house of the LORD did they bestow upon Baalim. 14 And when they had finished it, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, whereof were made vessels FOR the house of the LORD, even vessels to minister, and to offer withal, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the LORD continually all the days of Jehoiada. 18 And they left the house of the LORD God of their fathers, and served groves and idols: and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem FOR this their trespass. 24 FOR the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men, and the LORD delivered a very great host into their hand, because they had forsaken the LORD God of their fathers. So they executed judgment against Joash. 25 And when they were departed from him, (FOR they left him in great diseases,) his own servants conspired against him FOR the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and slew him on his bed, and he died: and they buried him in the city of David, but they buried him not in the sepulchres of the kings. 2 CHRONICLES 25 4 But he slew not their children, but did as it is written in the law in the book of Moses, where the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not die FOR the children, neither shall the children die FOR the fathers, but every man shall die FOR his own sin. 6 He hired also an hundred thousand mighty men of valour out of Israel FOR an hundred talents of silver. 7 But there came a man of God to him, saying, O king, let not the army of Israel go with thee; FOR the LORD is not with Israel, to wit, with all the children of Ephraim. 8 But if thou wilt go, do it; be strong FOR the battle: God shall make thee fall before the enemy: FOR God hath power to help, and to cast down. 9 And Amaziah said to the man of God, But what shall we do FOR the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel? And the man of God answered, The LORD is able to give thee much more than this. 20 But Amaziah would not hear; FOR it came of God, that he might deliver them into the hand of their enemies, because they sought after the gods of Edom. 2 CHRONICLES 26 8 And the Ammonites gave gifts to Uzziah: and his name spread abroad even to the entering in of Egypt; FOR he strengthened himself exceedingly. 10 Also he built towers in the desert, and digged many wells: FOR he had much cattle, both in the low country, and in the plains: husbandmen also, and vine dressers in the mountains, and in Carmel: FOR he loved husbandry. 14 And Uzziah prepared FOR them throughout all the host shields, and spears, and helmets, and habergeons, and bows, and slings to cast stones. 15 And he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by cunning men, to be on the towers and upon the bulwarks, to shoot arrows and great stones withal. And his name spread far abroad; FOR he was marvellously helped, till he was strong. 16 But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: FOR he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense. 18 And they withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It appertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the LORD, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; FOR thou hast trespassed; neither shall it be FOR thine honour from the LORD God. 21 And Uzziah the king was a leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a several house, being a leper; FOR he was cut off from the house of the LORD: and Jotham his son was over the king's house, judging the people of the land. 23 So Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of the burial which belonged to the kings; FOR they said, He is a leper: and Jotham his son reigned in his stead. 2 CHRONICLES 28 2 FOR he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and made also molten images FOR Baalim. 6 FOR Pekah the son of Remaliah slew in Judah an hundred and twenty thousand in one day, which were all valiant men; because they had forsaken the LORD God of their fathers. 10 And now ye purpose to keep under the children of Judah and Jerusalem FOR bondmen and bondwomen unto you: but are there not with you, even with you, sins against the LORD your God? 11 Now hear me therefore, and deliver the captives again, which ye have taken captive of your brethren: FOR the fierce wrath of the LORD is upon you. 13 And said unto them, Ye shall not bring in the captives hither: FOR whereas we have offended against the LORD already, ye intend to add more to our sins and to our trespass: FOR our trespass is great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel. 17 FOR again the Edomites had come and smitten Judah, and carried away captives. 19 FOR the LORD brought Judah low because of Ahaz king of Israel; FOR he made Judah naked, and transgressed sore against the LORD. 21 FOR Ahaz took away a portion out of the house of the LORD, and out of the house of the king, and of the princes, and gave it unto the king of Assyria: but he helped him not. 23 FOR he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which smote him: and he said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria help them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel. 2 CHRONICLES 29 6 FOR our fathers have trespassed, and done that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD our God, and have forsaken him, and have turned away their faces from the habitation of the LORD, and turned their backs. 9 FOR, lo, our fathers have fallen by the sword, and our sons and our daughters and our wives are in captivity FOR this. 11 My sons, be not now negligent: FOR the LORD hath chosen you to stand before him, to serve him, and that ye should minister unto him, and burn incense. 21 And they brought seven bullocks, and seven rams, and seven lambs, and seven he goats, FOR a sin offering FOR the kingdom, and FOR the sanctuary, and FOR Judah. And he commanded the priests the sons of Aaron to offer them on the altar of the LORD. 23 And they brought forth the he goats FOR the sin offering before the king and the congregation; and they laid their hands upon them: 24 And the priests killed them, and they made reconciliation with their blood upon the altar, to make an atonement FOR all Israel: FOR the king commanded that the burnt offering and the sin offering should be made FOR all Israel. 25 And he set the Levites in the house of the LORD with cymbals, with psalteries, and with harps, according to the commandment of David, and of Gad the king's seer, and Nathan the prophet: FOR so was the commandment of the LORD by his prophets. 32 And the number of the burnt offerings, which the congregation brought, was threescore and ten bullocks, an hundred rams, and two hundred lambs: all these were FOR a burnt offering to the LORD. 34 But the priests were too few, so that they could not flay all the burnt offerings: wherefore their brethren the Levites did help them, till the work was ended, and until the other priests had sanctified themselves: FOR the Levites were more upright in heart to sanctify themselves than the priests. 35 And also the burnt offerings were in abundance, with the fat of the peace offerings, and the drink offerings FOR every burnt offering. So the service of the house of the LORD was set in order. 36 And Hezekiah rejoiced, and all the people, that God had prepared the people: FOR the thing was done suddenly. --MORE-- |
