RUTH 4
4 And I thought to advertise thee, saying, Buy it before the inhabitants, and before the elders of my people. If thou wilt redeem it, redeem it: but if thou wilt not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know: FOR there is none to redeem it beside thee; and I am after thee. And he said, I will redeem it.
6 And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it FOR myself, lest I mar mine own inheritance: redeem thou my right to thyself; FOR I cannot redeem it.
7 Now this was the manner in former time in Israel concerning redeeming and concerning changing, FOR to confirm all things; a man plucked off his shoe, and gave it to his neighbour: and this was a testimony in Israel.
8 Therefore the kinsman said unto Boaz, Buy it FOR thee. So he drew off his shoe.
15 And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of thine old age: FOR thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons, hath born him.
1 SAMUEL 1
5 But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; FOR he loved Hannah: but the LORD had shut up her womb.
6 And her adversary also provoked her sore, FOR to make her fret, because the LORD had shut up her womb.
16 Count not thine handmaid FOR a daughter of Belial: FOR out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.
17 Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the GOD of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.
22 But Hannah went not up; FOR she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there abide FOR ever.
27 FOR this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him:
1 SAMUEL 2
2 There is none holy as the LORD: FOR there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our GOD.
3 Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: FOR the LORD is a GOD of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.
5 They that were full have hired out themselves FOR bread; and they that were hungry ceased: so that the barren hath born seven; and she that hath many children is waxed feeble.
8 He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: FOR the pillars of the earth are the LORD's, and he hath set the world upon them.
9 He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; FOR by strength shall no man prevail.
14 And he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fleshhook brought up the priest took FOR himself. So they did in Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.
15 Also before they burnt the fat, the priest's servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast FOR the priest; FOR he will not have sodden flesh of thee, but raw.
17 Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD: FOR men abhorred the offering of the LORD.
20 And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, The LORD give thee seed of this woman FOR the loan which is lent to the LORD. And they went unto their own home.
23 And he said unto them, Why do ye such things? FOR I hear of your evil dealings by all this people.
24 Nay, my sons; FOR it is no good report that I hear: ye make the LORD's people to transgress.
25 If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall intreat FOR him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the LORD would slay them.
27 And there came a man of GOD unto Eli, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Did I plainly appear unto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh's house?
30 Wherefore the LORD GOD of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me FOR ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; FOR them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.
32 And thou shalt see an enemy in my habitation, in all the wealth which GOD shall give Israel: and there shall not be an old man in thine house FOR ever.
35 And I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine anointed FOR ever.
36 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left in thine house shall come and crouch to him FOR a piece of silver and a morsel of bread, and shall say, Put me, I pray thee, into one of the priests' offices, that I may eat a piece of bread.
1 SAMUEL 3
3 And ere the lamp of GOD went out in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of GOD was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;
5 And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; FOR thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.
6 And the LORD called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; FOR thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.
8 And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; FOR thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child.
9 Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; FOR thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
10 And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; FOR thy servant heareth.
13 FOR I have told him that I will judge his house FOR ever FOR the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.
14 And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering FOR ever.
17 And he said, What is the thing that the LORD hath said unto thee? I pray thee hide it not from me: GOD do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide any thing from me of all the things that he said unto thee.
21 And the LORD appeared again in Shiloh: FOR the LORD revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the LORD.
1 SAMUEL 4
4 So the people sent to Shiloh, that they might bring from thence the ark of the covenant of the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth between the cherubims: and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of GOD.
7 And the Philistines were afraid, FOR they said, GOD is come into the camp. And they said, Woe unto us! FOR there hath not been such a thing heretofore.
10 And the Philistines fought, and Israel was smitten, and they fled every man into his tent: and there was a very great slaughter; FOR there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmen.
11 And the ark of GOD was taken; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were slain.
13 And when he came, lo, Eli sat upon a seat by the wayside watching: FOR his heart trembled FOR the ark of GOD. And when the man came into the city, and told it, all the city cried out.
17 And the messenger answered and said, Israel is fled before the Philistines, and there hath been also a great slaughter among the people, and thy two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of GOD is taken.
18 And it came to pass, when he made mention of the ark of GOD, that he fell from off the seat backward by the side of the gate, and his neck brake, and he died: FOR he was an old man, and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years.
19 And his daughter in law, Phinehas' wife, was with child, near to be delivered: and when she heard the tidings that the ark of GOD was taken, and that her father in law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and travailed; FOR her pains came upon her.
20 And about the time of her death the women that stood by her said unto her, Fear not; FOR thou hast born a son. But she answered not, neither did she regard it.
21 And she named the child Ichabod, saying, The glory is departed from Israel: because the ark of GOD was taken, and because of her father in law and her husband.
22 And she said, The glory is departed from Israel: FOR the ark of GOD is taken.
1 SAMUEL 5
1 And the Philistines took the ark of GOD, and brought it from Ebenezer unto Ashdod.
2 When the Philistines took the ark of GOD, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.
7 And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the GOD of Israel shall not abide with us: FOR his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our GOD.
8 They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the GOD of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the GOD of Israel be carried about unto Gath. And they carried the ark of the GOD of Israel about thither.
10 Therefore they sent the ark of GOD to Ekron. And it came to pass, as the ark of GOD came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of the GOD of Israel to us, to slay us and our people.
11 So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the GOD of Israel, and let it go again to his own place, that it slay us not, and our people: FOR there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of GOD was very heavy there.
