JUDGES 18 10 When ye go, ye shall come unto A people secure, and to A large land: for God hath given it into your hands; A place where there is no want of any thing that is in the earth. 14 Then answered the five men that went to spy out the country of Laish, and said unto their brethren, Do ye know that there is in these houses an ephod, and teraphim, and A graven image, and A molten image? now therefore consider what ye have to do. 19 And they said unto him, Hold thy peace, lay thine hand upon thy mouth, and go with us, and be to us A father and A priest: is it better for thee to be A priest unto the house of one man, or that thou be A priest unto A tribe and A family in Israel? 22 And when they were A good way from the house of Micah, the men that were in the houses near to Micah's house were gathered together, and overtook the children of Dan. 23 And they cried unto the children of Dan. And they turned their faces, and said unto Micah, What aileth thee, that thou comest with such A company? 27 And they took the things which Micah had made, and the priest which he had, and came unto Laish, unto A people that were at quiet and secure: and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and burnt the city with fire. 28 And there was no deliverer, because it was far from Zidon, and they had no business with any man; and it was in the valley that lieth by Bethrehob. And they built A city, and dwelt therein. JUDGES 19 1 And it came to pass in those days, when there was no king in Israel, that there was A certain Levite sojourning on the side of mount Ephraim, who took to him A concubine out of Bethlehemjudah. 3 And her husband arose, and went after her, to speak friendly unto her, and to bring her again, having his servant with him, and A couple of asses: and she brought him into her father's house: and when the father of the damsel saw him, he rejoiced to meet him. 5 And it came to pass on the fourth day, when they arose early in the morning, that he rose up to depart: and the damsel's father said unto his son in law, Comfort thine heart with A morsel of bread, and afterward go your way. 12 And his master said unto him, We will not turn aside hither into the city of A stranger, that is not of the children of Israel; we will pass over to Gibeah. 15 And they turned aside thither, to go in and to lodge in Gibeah: and when he went in, he sat him down in A street of the city: for there was no man that took them into his house to lodging. 17 And when he had lifted up his eyes, he saw A wayfaring man in the street of the city: and the old man said, Whither goest thou? and whence comest thou? 24 Behold, here is my daughter A maiden, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good unto you: but unto this man do not so vile A thing. 29 And when he was come into his house, he took A knife, and laid hold on his concubine, and divided her, together with her bones, into twelve pieces, and sent her into all the coasts of Israel. JUDGES 20 10 And we will take ten men of an hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and an hundred of A thousand, and A thousand out of ten thousand, to fetch victual for the people, that they may do, when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the folly that they have wrought in Israel. 32 And the children of Benjamin said, They are smitten down before us, as at the first. But the children of Israel said, Let us FLEE, and draw them from the city unto the highways. 38 Now there was an appointed sign between the men of Israel and the liers in wait, that they should make A great flame with smoke rise up out of the city. 40 But when the flame began to arise up out of the city with A pillar of smoke, the Benjamites looked behind them, and, behold, the flame of the city ascended up to heaven. JUDGES 21 5 And the children of Israel said, Who is there among all the tribes of Israel that came not up with the congregation unto the LORD? For they had made A great oath concerning him that came not up to the LORD to Mizpeh, saying, He shall surely be put to death. 15 And the people repented them for Benjamin, because that the LORD had made A breach in the tribes of Israel. 17 And they said, There must be an inheritance for them that be escaped of Benjamin, that A tribe be not destroyed out of Israel. 18 Howbeit we may not give them wives of our daughters: for the children of Israel have sworn, saying, Cursed be he that giveth A wife to Benjamin. 19 Then they said, Behold, there is A feast of the LORD in Shiloh yearly in A place which is on the north side of Bethel, on the east side of the highway that goeth up from Bethel to Shechem, and on the south of Lebonah. RUTH 1 1 Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was A famine in the land. And A certain man of Bethlehemjudah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons. RUTH 2 1 And Naomi had A kinsman of her husband's, A mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech; and his name was Boaz. 3 And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers: and her hap was to light on A part of the field belonging unto Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech. 7 And she said, I pray you, let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves: so she came, and hath continued even from the morning until now, that she tarried A little in the house. 8 Then said Boaz unto Ruth, Hearest thou not, my daughter? Go not to glean in another field, neither go from hence, but ABIDE here fast by my maidens: 10 Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said unto him, Why have I found grace in thine eyes, that thou shouldest take knowledge of me, seeing I am A stranger? 11 And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath fully been shewed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother in law since the death of thine husband: and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy nativity, and art come unto A people which thou knewest not heretofore. 12 The LORD recompense thy work, and A full reward be given thee of the LORD God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust. RUTH 3 8 And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was afraid, and turned himself: and, behold, A woman lay at his feet. 9 And he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmaid: spread therefore thy skirt over thine handmaid; for thou art A near kinsman. 11 And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to thee all that thou requirest: for all the city of my people doth know that thou art A virtuous woman. 12 And now it is true that I am thy near kinsman: howbeit there is A kinsman nearer than I. 13 Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will perform unto thee the part of A kinsman, well; let him do the kinsman's part: but if he will not do the part of A kinsman to thee, then will I do the part of A kinsman to thee, as the LORD liveth: lie down until the morning. 14 And she lay at his feet until the morning: and she rose up before one could know another. And he said, Let it not be known that A woman came into the floor. RUTH 4 1 Then went Boaz up to the gate, and sat him down there: and, behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz spake came by; unto whom he said, Ho, such A one! turn aside, sit down here. And he turned aside, and sat down. 3 And he said unto the kinsman, Naomi, that is come again out of the country of Moab, selleth A parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelech's: 7 Now this was the manner in former time in Israel concerning redeeming and concerning changing, for to confirm all things; A man plucked off his shoe, and gave it to his neighbour: and this was A testimony in Israel. 13 So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife: and when he went in unto her, the LORD gave her conception, and she bare A son. 14 And the women said unto Naomi, Blessed be the LORD, which hath not left thee this day without A kinsman, that his name may be famous in Israel. 15 And he shall be unto thee A restorer of thy life, and A nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons, hath born him. 17 And the women her neighbours gave it A name, saying, There is A son born to Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he is the father of Jesse, the father of David. 1 SAMUEL 1 1 Now there was A certain man of Ramathaimzophim, of mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite: 5 But unto Hannah he gave A worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the LORD had shut up her womb. 9 So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon A seat by A post of the temple of the LORD. 11 And she vowed A vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid A man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head. 15 And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am A woman of A sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD. 16 Count not thine handmaid for A daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto. 20 Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare A son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD. 22 But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there ABIDE for ever. 24 And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and A bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the LORD in Shiloh: and the child was young. 25 And they slew A bullock, and brought the child to Eli. --MORE-- |
