JESUS CHRIST, PREINCARNATE

INTRODUCTION: Jesus Christ is the central figure of the entire history of the world. He is the expression of God's love for mankind. It is a very serious affront to God to reject his Son. "For God sent not his Son to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned; but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." (John 3:17-18).

JESUS, BEFORE HIS INCARNATION:

Is God: We have already mentioned on a previous page the fact that God is a trinity (one, yet in three persons). Jesus Christ is God and posesses all of the attributes ascribed to God the Father.
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the same was in the beginning with God." (John 1:1-2)..
"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." (John 1:14).
" And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. (1 John 5:20).
As God: he dwelt in the honor and glory which was due himself (Isaiah 6:1-4, 1 Kings 22:19, Ezekiel 1:26-28) and was active in the creation of the universe and in God's relationship with mankind. (John 1:3,. Genesis 1:26, Genesis 11:7).

Is author of the plan of Salvation. Remember, we are dealing with the Holy Trinity. In his omniscience God knew that man would fall and would need a Savior. His justice required the penalty of death for the sinner, ["For the wages of sin is death..."] , but his love caused God the Son to offer himself as the effective sacrifice; ["But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.".] (Romans 6:23)

Provided many prophecies regarding his planned "Business trip." We do not mean to be sacrilegious, but Christ's excursion to earth was not merely a sightseeing vacation. He had a plan and a purpose and in preparation provided much advance information to those who studied the Old Testament. (Acts 3:20-21) As early as Genesis 3:15 it was predicted that enmity would exist between the seed of the serpent and the seed of the woman. That enmity is personified in Revelation 12. The phrase "Her seed" is generally taken as an early reference to the virgin birth of Christ (Isaiah 7:14). Although many of the prophecies were misunderstood, expectations were high as the time for Christ's birth approached. The following is a short list of Messianic prophecies.
