Is it not even thus, O ye children of Israel? saith the LORD. 16 And he that is courageous among the mighty shall FLEE away naked in that day, saith the LORD. AMOS 3 2 You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you FOR all your iniquities. 5 Can a bird fall in a snare upon the earth, where no gin is FOR him? shall one take up a snare from the earth, and have taken nothing at all? 10 FOR they know not to do right, saith the LORD, who store up violence and robbery in their palaces. AMOS 4 5 And offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving with leaven, and proclaim and publish the free offerings: FOR this liketh you, O ye children of Israel, saith the Lord GOD. 13 FOR, lo, he that formeth the mountains, and createth the wind, and declareth unto man what is his thought, that maketh the morning darkness, and treadeth upon the high places of the earth, The LORD, The God of hosts, is his name. AMOS 5 3 FOR thus saith the Lord GOD; The city that went out by a thousand shall leave an hundred, and that which went forth by an hundred shall leave ten, to the house of Israel. 4 FOR thus saith the LORD unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live: 5 But seek not Bethel, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beersheba: FOR Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Bethel shall come to nought. 8 Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth FOR the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name: 9 That strengtheneth the spoiled against the strong, so that the spoiled shall come against the FORTRESS. 12 FOR I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: they afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate from their right. 13 Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; FOR it is an evil time. 17 And in all vineyards shall be wailing: FOR I will pass through thee, saith the LORD. 18 Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it FOR you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light. 19 As if a man did FLEE from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him. 23 Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; FOR I will not hear the melody of thy viols. AMOS 6 6 That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved FOR the affliction of Joseph. 10 And a man's uncle shall take him up, and he that burneth him, to bring out the bones out of the house, and shall say unto him that is by the sides of the house, Is there yet any with thee? and he shall say, No. Then shall he say, Hold thy tongue: FOR we may not make mention of the name of the LORD. 11 FOR, behold, the LORD commandeth, and he will smite the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts. 12 Shall horses run upon the rock? will one plow there with oxen? FOR ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock: AMOS 7 2 And it came to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord GOD, forgive, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? FOR he is small. 3 The LORD repented FOR this: It shall not be, saith the LORD. 5 Then said I, O Lord GOD, cease, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? FOR he is small. 6 The LORD repented FOR this: This also shall not be, saith the Lord GOD. 11 FOR thus Amos saith, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of their own land. 12 Also Amaziah said unto Amos, O thou seer, go, FLEE thee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there: 13 But prophesy not again any more at Bethel: FOR it is the king's chapel, and it is the king's court. AMOS 8 6 That we may buy the poor FOR silver, and the needy FOR a pair of shoes; yea, and sell the refuse of the wheat? 8 Shall not the land tremble FOR this, and every one mourn that dwelleth therein? and it shall rise up wholly as a flood; and it shall be cast out and drowned, as by the flood of Egypt. 11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst FOR water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: 13 In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint FOR thirst. AMOS 9 1 I saw the LORD standing upon the altar: and he said, Smite the lintel of the door, that the posts may shake: and cut them in the head, all of them; and I will slay the last of them with the sword: he that fleeth of them shall not FLEE away, and he that escapeth of them shall not be delivered. 4 And though they go into captivity before their enemies, thence will I command the sword, and it shall slay them: and I will set mine eyes upon them FOR evil, and not FOR good. 6 It is he that buildeth his stories in the heaven, and hath founded his troop in the earth; he that calleth FOR the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name. 9 FOR, lo, I will command, and I will sift the house of Israel among all nations, like as corn is sifted in a sieve, yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth. OBADIAH 1 10 FOR thy violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off FOR ever. 15 FOR the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head. 16 FOR as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink continually, yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been. 18 And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau FOR stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; FOR the LORD hath spoken it. JONAH 1 2 Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; FOR their wickedness is come up before me. 3 But Jonah rose up to FLEE unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD. 7 And they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know FOR whose cause this evil is upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah. 8 Then said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, FOR whose cause this evil is upon us; What is thine occupation? and whence comest thou? what is thy country? and of what people art thou? 10 Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him. Why hast thou done this? FOR the men knew that he fled from the presence of the LORD, because he had told them. 11 Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? FOR the sea wrought, and was tempestuous. 12 And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: FOR I know that FOR my sake this great tempest is upon you. 13 Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: FOR the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them. 14 Wherefore they cried unto the LORD, and said, We beseech thee, O LORD, we beseech thee, let us not perish FOR this man's life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: FOR thou, O LORD, hast done as it pleased thee. --MORE-- |
