JUDGES 4 1 And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the LORD, when Ehud WAS dead. 2 And the LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, that reigned in Hazor; the captain of whose host WAS Sisera, which dwelt in Harosheth of the Gentiles. 11 Now Heber the Kenite, which WAS of the children of Hobab the father in law of Moses, had severed himself from the Kenites, and pitched his tent unto the plain of Zaanaim, which is by Kedesh. 12 And they shewed Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam WAS gone up to mount Tabor. 16 But Barak pursued after the chariots, and after the host, unto Harosheth of the Gentiles: and all the host of Sisera fell upon the edge of the sword; and there WAS not a man left. 17 Howbeit Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite: for there WAS peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite. 21 Then Jael Heber's wife took a nail of the tent, and took an hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and smote the nail into his temples, and fastened it into the ground: for he WAS fast asleep and weary. So he died. 22 And, behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him, and said unto him, Come, and I will shew thee the man whom thou seekest. And when he came into her tent, behold, Sisera lay dead, and the nail WAS in his temples. JUDGES 5 8 They chose new gods; then WAS war in the gates: WAS there a shield or spear seen among forty thousand in Israel? 14 Out of Ephraim WAS there a root of them against Amalek; after thee, Benjamin, among thy people; out of Machir came down governors, and out of Zebulun they that handle the pen of the writer. 15 And the princes of Issachar were with Deborah; even Issachar, and also Barak: he WAS sent on foot into the valley. For the divisions of Reuben there were great thoughts of heart. JUDGES 6 3 And so it WAS, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the children of the east, even they came up against them; 6 And Israel WAS greatly impoverished because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the LORD. 11 And there came an angel of the LORD, and sat under an oak which WAS in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abiezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites. 21 Then the angel of the LORD put forth the end of the staff that WAS in his hand, and touched the flesh and the unleavened cakes; and there rose up fire out of the rock, and consumed the flesh and the unleavened cakes. Then the angel of the LORD departed out of his sight. 22 And when Gideon perceived that he WAS an angel of the LORD, Gideon said, Alas, O LORD God! for because I have seen an angel of the LORD face to face. 27 Then Gideon took ten men of his servants, and did as the LORD had said unto him: and so it WAS, because he feared his father's household, and the men of the city, that he could not do it by day, that he did it by night. 28 And when the men of the city arose early in the morning, behold, the altar of Baal WAS cast down, and the grove WAS cut down that WAS by it, and the second bullock WAS offered upon the altar that WAS built. 30 Then the men of the city said unto Joash, Bring out thy son, that he may die: because he hath cast down the altar of Baal, and because he hath cut down the grove that WAS by it. 34 But the Spirit of the LORD came upon Gideon, and he blew a trumpet; and Abiezer WAS gathered after him. 35 And he sent messengers throughout all Manasseh; who also WAS gathered after him: and he sent messengers unto Asher, and unto Zebulun, and unto Naphtali; and they came up to meet them. 38 And it WAS so: for he rose up early on the morrow, and thrust the fleece together, and wringed the dew out of the fleece, a bowl full of water. 40 And God did so that night: for it WAS dry upon the fleece only, and there WAS dew on all the ground. JUDGES 7 3 Now therefore go to, proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, Whosoever is fearful and AFRAID, let him return and depart early from mount Gilead. And there returned of the people twenty and two thousand; and there remained ten thousand. 8 So the people took victuals in their hand, and their trumpets: and he sent all the rest of Israel every man unto his tent, and retained those three hundred men: and the host of Midian WAS beneath him in the valley. 13 And when Gideon WAS come, behold, there WAS a man that told a dream unto his fellow, and said, Behold, I dreamed a dream, and, lo, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the host of Midian, and came unto a tent, and smote it that it fell, and overturned it, that the tent lay along. 15 And it WAS so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshipped, and returned into the host of Israel, and said, Arise; for the LORD hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian. --MORE-- |
